how to help the foster box

Thank you for your interest in The Foster Box. Our main focus is providing resources for foster families as they welcome a new child into their home. There isn’t usually much notice before a new child is placed in a home.
During the transition time, it is extra-important for the foster parents to focus on the child.
The Foster Box strives to be a quick resource for clothing and gear to get them started.

Below are three donation opportunities we offer. Your generosity will make
a lasting impact in Greater Boston’s foster care community!

The Foster Box is registered as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, so contributions to The Foster Box are tax-deductible.

  • Goods

    We accept gear, clothing and other goods for preemies and up. Our current focus is providing items for babies through elementary-aged children.

  • Time

    Processing donations and dropping off orders can’t be done without the help of volunteers. We would love to have you join our team and help mobilize our

  • Funds

    Financial contributions help keep The Foster Box going by covering costs like our storage units, new goods/gear and administrative necessities.

Donate clothing

We truly want children in foster care to feel confident and proud in what they receive from The Foster Box.
We CANNOT accept:

  • clothes with stains, pilling, holes or tears

  • items with familial text (Mommy, Daddy, Sister, Brother, etc)

  • clothes with religious or holiday references

  • items that are missing size tags

  • used socks/underwear/bras

  • adult and maternity clothes

For clothes that have been in long-term storage, we would appreciate you giving them a wash before donating. Please respect and help our volunteers by ensuring your clothing items meet our quality requirements before donating.

You can provide a swift and safe turnover to foster families in need if your donated gear is safe, gently used within the past 5 years and clean.
We CANNOT accept:

  • gear that has expired or been recalled

  • linens and bedding (except for baby items)

  • used feeding items (bottles, pacifiers, sippy cups…)

  • furniture

  • toys

  • books

  • art / school supplies

  • Gates / Home Safety Items

  • Infant Tubs

  • Pack-and-Plays

  • Receiving Blankets

  • Strollers: Double / Single / Umbrella

  • Soft Baby Carriers

Give hygiene items

To ensure the safety of our foster families, all donated hygiene items must be NEW.

The Foster Box runs solely on volunteer power. If your heart beats for foster care, we would love to connect with you about joining our team! You can help in a variety of ways, from sorting donated items to running requested items to a foster family’s door.
